A coalition of 100 civil society organizations from 29 European countries has issued a joint statement denouncing the EU’s failure to take a strong stance against the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and to demand an immediate ceasefire.

The statement, coordinated by the European Civic Forum, accuses the EU of being complicit in the crimes committed by Israel, which has killed more than 10,000 people and injured over 50,000 in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

The statement also criticizes the EU for blocking a UN resolution calling for a humanitarian truce and an international investigation into the violations of international law by Israel.

The statement calls on the EU to Use all its diplomatic and economic leverage to pressure Israel to stop its attacks and lift the illegal blockade on Gaza.

Support the UN-led efforts to broker a lasting ceasefire and a political solution based on international law and human rights. Ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and protection to the people of Gaza and hold Israel accountable for any damage or obstruction to the aid infrastructure. Suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement and any other agreements that benefit Israel until it complies with its obligations under international law. Recognize the State of Palestine and support its full membership in the UN and other international organizations.

The statement also expresses solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle for freedom, justice, and dignity, and with the Israeli peace activists and human rights defenders who oppose the occupation and the war.

The statement concludes by urging the EU to act as a responsible and credible actor for peace and democracy in the region and in the world.
