Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Fatima Al-Saud, a 110-year-old woman from Riyadh, has decided to resume her education after a long hiatus.
She enrolled in a literacy program offered by the Ministry of Education, and hopes to learn how to read and write Arabic.
Fatima was born in 1913, when Saudi Arabia was not yet a unified country. She grew up in a rural area, where girls had no access to formal education. She married at the age of 15, and had 12 children, 54 grandchildren, and 87 great-grandchildren. She spent most of her life taking care of her family and household.
