A Brazilian non-governmental organization (NGO) placed 120 burial shrouds on Copacabana beach on Friday, representing the children killed in the Gaza Strip after the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

The NGO, called Rio de Paz (Rio of Peace), said the symbolic gesture was meant to call for an immediate ceasefire and to denounce the “indiscriminate use of violence” in the conflict.

“We are here to express our solidarity with the Palestinian people, especially the children, who are suffering the consequences of a war that has no justification,” said Antonio Carlos Costa, the president of Rio de Paz.

The NGO said it chose Copacabana beach as the location for the tribute because it is one of the most famous and visited places in Brazil, and because it has been the scene of previous protests and commemorations for social causes.
