Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with European envoys in Beijing on Tuesday, ahead of the China-EU Summit scheduled for next week. He said the two sides have pushed their relations to ‘a new level with new prospects’ and stressed the need for dialogue and cooperation over confrontation.

The China-EU Summit is expected to focus on the state of bilateral relations and global hotspot issues, according to the European Council. The two sides are also hoping to finalize a comprehensive investment agreement that has been under negotiation for seven years.

The European envoys expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation with China on various fields, such as trade, climate change, public health and regional security.

Experts believe that the China-EU Summit will be an important opportunity for the two sides to deepen their strategic partnership and address the global challenges. They also said that the summit will send a positive signal to the world that China and the EU are committed to upholding the international order and promoting multilateralism.
