Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in South Africa for BRICS summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in South Africa on Monday for a four-day visit that will include attending the 15th BRICS summit and co-chairing the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The BRICS summit, which will be held in Johannesburg from Aug 22-24 is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among the five emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in areas such as trade, investment, innovation, security and development.

Xi will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the other BRICS countries and deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the summit.

President Xi and his South African counterpart Ramaphosa will co-chair the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue, which will bring together leaders of African countries and regional organizations that have diplomatic relations with China. The dialogue aims to enhance solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
