The European Union and the United States have shown growing differences on how to end the war in Gaza, as the EU foreign ministers called for a “sustainable ceasefire” and urged Israel to stop its “disproportionate” attacks on civilians.

The US, on the other hand, vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that demanded an immediate humanitarian truce, and reiterated its support for Israel’s right to self-defense.

The EU’s stance contrasted with that of the US, which has been blocking any UN action that would pressure Israel to halt its offensive.
