On World Oral Health Day, the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) is calling for action against oral diseases, which affect nearly half the world’s population. The FDI wants oral health to be integrated in the UN High Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage in September. The Meeting will assess progress and identify areas for action to provide health for all.
Oral diseases are the most prevalent conditions worldwide, with more cases than all five major noncommunicable diseases combined. They can cause pain, disability, social isolation and reduced employability.
“Good oral health is a vital part of our daily lives,” said Prof. Ihsane Ben Yahya, President of FDI. “It is time for governments and global health agencies to act and ensure equitable access to affordable, quality oral healthcare for all.”
