In an energy collaboration is taking shape as Israel prepares to finalize a work plan with Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, alongside Israel’s NewMed Energy and British oil giant BP, for offshore natural gas exploration in the Mediterranean.
The consortium has secured exploration licenses for blocks near the Leviathan reservoir—one of the world’s largest deep-water gas finds—following a competitive bidding round overseen by Israel’s Energy Ministry.
This partnership builds on growing ties between Israel and Azerbaijan, alongside BP’s increasing interest in the Eastern Mediterranean’s gas potential.
