The Kunjerab Pass, the highest paved international border crossing in the world and the highest point on the Karakoram Highway, is expected to open in April after being closed for winter. The pass connects Kashgar in western China with Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, and runs through some of the most rugged and inaccessible terrain in Asia.

According to a tweet from the Chinese embassy in Islamabad, Khunjerab Pass will be opened from April onwards, starting the annual operation period of this year. Look forward to having more goods and trade go across the border.

The pass was completed in 1978 as a joint Pakistani and Chinese project and has been a vital link for trade and tourism between the two countries. The pass also offers spectacular views of the Pamirs, Hindu Kush, Kunlun Mountains, and Karakoram Range.

The opening of the pass will facilitate the movement of goods and people across the border and enhance the economic cooperation between China and Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. The pass is also a gateway to the Khunjerab National Park, which is home to endangered species such as snow leopards, ibexes, and yaks.

The Kunjerab Pass is usually open from May to November, depending on the weather conditions. The pass is closed during winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanches that make it unsafe for travel. Travelers are advised to check the latest information on the pass before planning their trips.
