A massive mudflow triggered by heavy rains swept through the mountain resort town of Shovi in Oni municipality in Georgia killing at least 13 people and leaving 25 others missing. The mudflow also destroyed dozens of houses, bridges, roads, and power lines, leaving the town isolated and without electricity.

The Georgian government declared a state of emergency and mobilized teams of emergency workers to carry out intensive search and rescue (SAR) operations.

The SAR teams faced difficulties due to the terrain and the weather conditions, as more rain was expected in the region.

The Georgian Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and promised to provide all necessary assistance to the affected population.
