Poland has announced that it will send up to 10,000 additional soldiers to its border with Belarus, as it faces growing security threats from its eastern neighbor. The move comes amid reports of Russian-backed mercenaries in Belarus and a surge of illegal migrants crossing the border.

Poland has been alarmed by the presence of hundreds of Wagner mercenaries, a private military group linked to Russia, in Belarus since last month. The mercenaries were invited by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who has accused Poland and other NATO members of plotting a coup against him. Lukashenko has also said that he was restraining Wagner fighters who want to attack Poland.
