Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of being responsible for the ongoing violence in the Middle East, saying that Washington’s policies have destabilized the region and created a “breeding ground for terrorism”.

Putin also criticized the US for its support of Israel, saying that Washington had failed to pressure Tel Aviv to end its occupation of Palestinian territories and to respect the rights of the Palestinian people.

Putin said that Russia supported the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the right of return for Palestinian refugees who were displaced by Israel.
