Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed the establishment of a BRICS parliament to enhance cooperation and amplify the global influence of the bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Russian President Vladimir Putin speaking at the tenth parliamentary forum of the bloc in St. Petersburg on Thursday emphasized the need for unified action among these developing economies to address global challenges and strengthen their geopolitical stance.
BRICS nations must act together to safeguard our interests and advance our collective influence on the world stage,” Putin stated “Thus far, BRICS does not have its own institutionalized parliamentary structure. But I believe that in the future this idea will definitely be realized.”
He highlighted the potential benefits of a BRICS parliament in facilitating coordinated policymaking and fostering deeper integration among member states.
The proposal comes at a time when BRICS countries are seeking to expand their economic and political clout in a multipolar world order. Putin’s suggestion underscores the growing importance of strategic alliances among emerging economies in counterbalancing the dominance of traditional Western powers.
