South Africa announced that the BRICS summit, which will be held in Johannesburg later this month, will move forward on the expansion of the bloc, despite some resistance from some of its members. The summit will be attended by leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, as well as representatives from 71 other nations.
BRICS is a group of emerging economies that aims to promote cooperation and development among its members and the Global South. The group has been seen as a catalyst for a tectonic shift in the global geopolitical architecture, according to South Africa’s ambassador to BRICS, Anil Sooklal.
