Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on more than 30 counts of business fraud, according to sources familiar with the case. The indictment, which is related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign, marks the first time in US history that a current or former president will face criminal charges.

Trump is expected to surrender to the Manhattan district attorney’s office and appear in court on Tuesday for his arraignment. He has denied any wrongdoing and called the indictment a “political persecution” and an “election interference” by Democrats.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been investigating Trump for his alleged role in a scheme to conceal payments of $130,000 to Daniels, who claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Trump had classified his reimbursement of the payout as a legal expense.

The indictment comes as Trump is considering running for president again in 2024. His supporters and critics have reacted differently to the news, with some calling it a “witch hunt” and others calling it a “historic moment” for justice.
