Abdulrahman Kinana, vice chairperson of Tanzania’s ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has resigned, the party announced Monday.

Amos Makalla, CCM secretary for ideology, publicity and training, said in a statement released Monday night that the CCM chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has accepted Kinana’s resignation.

Kinana was appointed CCM vice chairperson in April 2022, succeeding Philip Mangula.

Hassan said she would have liked Kinana to continue with the position, but he had asked the president for the resignation a long time ago to give him space for resting, according to the statement.

Hassan said the party will continue nurturing the experience shown by Kinana in leading the party.
