Japan is on high alert as a powerful earthquake struck off the coast, triggering a tsunami warning and prompting coastal communities to evacuate to higher ground. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.5 shaking buildings and sending tremors across the region.

The Japan Meteorological Agency swiftly issued a tsunami warning for the coastal areas of western Japan urging residents to move to higher ground and follow evacuation procedures. Emergency sirens blared across towns and cities, signaling the urgency of the situation.

A major tsunami warning — the highest level of alert — was issued for Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula, with the weather agency warning of waves of up to 5 meters in the area. Other areas of the Sea of Japan coast, from Hokkaido to Nagasaki, were under tsunami warnings or advisories, with waves of up to 3 meters forecast. Tsunami waves had already arrived in some areas.
