US warns India over plot to kill Sikh separatist in New York

The US government has warned India of a possible assassination attempt against a prominent Sikh separatist leader who lives in New York, according to media reports.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the legal adviser and co-founder of the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) movement, which advocates for the creation of an independent Sikh state called Khalistan in India, was allegedly targeted of the India plot.

The plot was uncovered by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which informed Pannun of the threat and advised him to take precautions, the report said.

The FBI also alerted the Indian government of the plot and warned it not to interfere in the US’s internal affairs, the report said.

India was also involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar Sikh separatist leader in Surrey, British Columbia which resulted the diplomatic tension between Canada and India.

India has been involved in targeting Sikh leaders in many other countries which has been becoming a serious blow to India.
