A wave of unrest swept through Bangladesh‘s capital today as protesters set fire to the state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) building, marking an escalation in ongoing demonstrations against the government.

The death toll in the anti-Quota movement is so far reported 32 but the social media sources fear it can be in hundreds. More than 100 police personals injured during the attack on Bangladesh national television by the charged mob.

Eyewitnesses reported that a large group of protesters gathered outside the BTV headquarters in Dhaka‘s Rampura area.
The protests, which have been gaining momentum over the past few weeks, are rooted in widespread dissatisfaction with the government’s jobs quota polices and demanding to abolish this controversial quota in job shared. The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condemned the violence and called for calm. However, the lethal use of force and the killing of protesters make her grip on power may week.
