Police are looking for two suspects who broke into a dump site and stole 200 pairs of shoes that were meant to be recycled. The incident happened on Tuesday night at the Green Waste Recycling Centre in Paris.
According to the CCTV footage, the thieves arrived in a white van and used bolt cutters to break the lock on the gate. They then loaded the shoes, which were donated by local residents, into their vehicle and drove away.
The shoes were part of a recycling program that aims to reduce waste and help people in need. The program collects unwanted shoes from the public and sends them to developing countries or converts them into materials for playgrounds and sports fields.
The manager of the recycling centre, Pierre Dupont, said he was shocked and saddened by the theft. He said the shoes were worth about 10,000 euros and could have helped many people.
“We are very disappointed that someone would do this. These shoes were not garbage, they were a valuable resource. They could have made a difference in someone’s life or in the environment. We hope the police can catch the thieves and recover the shoes,” he said.
The police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. They have also warned people not to buy any shoes that may have come from the dump site, as they could be contaminated with hazardous substances.
